Dear Friends,

It is a pleasure to congratulate Medical Care Development for receiving the 2019 P3 Impact Award from the U.S. Department of State's Office of Global Partnerships. The people of Maine are proud of your leadership in the Bioko Island Malaria Elimination Project. People in Equatorial Guinea and around the world are grateful for your commitment to improving global health and well-being through this remarkable public-private partnership.

When your project was launched 15 years ago, malaria was the leading cause of death among the residents of Bioko Island. Through the dedication and expertise of MCD and its partners, infant mortality from that dreaded disease has been reduced by nearly two-thirds. In addition, malaria prevalence has decreased by more than three-fourths, and malaria transmission has been virtually eliminated. This outstanding achievement is saving lives and demonstrating the power of collaboration among governments, research institutions, and public health organizations.

Whether in Africa, Latin America, or here in Maine, Medical Care Development is succeeding in its mission to advance public health solutions for all people in all places. Thank you and congratulations.

Sincerely,

Susan M. Collins

United States Senator
