Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program

The Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program (MYSPP) is a collaborative initiative led by the Maine CDC in the Maine DHHS. The MYSPP employs a public health approach with the goal of reducing suicide and suicidal behaviors in Maine.

MCD is primarily responsible for the design and delivery of a variety of suicide prevention education programs for MYSPP.  This work is supported by a training and education contract with the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.  We have offered programs in schools, agencies, and communities statewide since 1998, including:

  • Full-day Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Trainings
  • "Training-of-Trainers" to learn how to present a 1-2 hour program on suicide
  • Teacher Training in how to use Lifelines, a student suicide prevention program
  • Protocol Development for Schools & Youth Serving Agencies
  • Suicide Assessment Training for Clinicians
  • Beyond the Basics of Suicide Prevention Annual Conference
