Maine Governor's Council on Physical Activity

The Maine Governor's Council on Physical Activity is a group of 25 members, appointed by the Governor, along with 32 liaisons working to promote wellness for Maine people through physical activity and other healthy policies and practices. The Council sponsors a variety of events throughout the year (All Children Exercising Simultaneously, National Employee Health & Fitness Day, Legislative Wellness Day), celebrates the accomplishments of those promoting good physical activity habits through a yearly award ceremony, and advocates for policies that will reduce barriers and create opportunities for physical activities. In addition, the Council provides a free online physical activity program, Maine in Motion, that uses goal setting, self-monitoring, and pedometer use as a strategy for motivating individuals to maintain active lifestyles.
