MCDI forged a partnership with a Somali NGO based in Badham, in the Sanaag Region, and with the Somali Development and Relief Agency (SDRA), to implement a water and sanitation initiative in the Sanaag Region. The joint partnership enhanced the capacity of both NGOs to effectively address the needs of the communities by drawing on the resources of each organization's capabilities.
SDRA was instrumental in providing cultural and geographical information pertaining to the project area and they facilitated the organization of local communities and negotiations with community leaders and elders. MCDI brought to the collaboration technical expertise, financial resources, and support in program development, training and management.
To more effectively bring relief to the people of Somalia, SDRA joined with two additional local NGOs: SOMAID and Steadfast Voluntary Organization (SVO).
Working together to identify key areas of intervention for inhabitants of the Sanaag Region of Somalia, MCDI and SDRA, with funding from SOMAID, MCDI and SDRA, collaborated on the design of a water and sanitation, health education and veterinary assistance project. Funding for the water and sanitation component was awarded by the AfDB and by OFDA.
MCDI procured the necessary drilling equipment supplies and vehicles required to rehabilitate and construct new wells and watering troughs in one of the more remote areas of Somalia. All project objectives were met.
