
Marathon and Partners Announce $28 Million, 5-Year Extension of Life Saving Malaria Control Project in Equatorial Guinea - 9/25/2008 1:48:00 PM
HOUSTON, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO) announced today that the Government of Equatorial Guinea, Marathon, Noble Energy (NYSE: NBL), GEPetrol and SONAGAS, are extending their successful Bioko Island Malaria Control Project (BIMCP) in Equatorial Guinea. The innovative private-public partnership has committed to investing an additional $28 million to continue its malaria control initiative through 2013.
One-third of the project funds will be a direct investment by the Government of Equatorial Guinea, and the remaining two-thirds has been committed by Marathon, Noble Energy and business partners.

CDC Cooperative Agreements in Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania, and Uganda
On September 21, 2005, CDC awarded $750,000 in CDC agency funds to four projects that provide support to the President Malaria Initiative. Three of these four projects are conducted in the PMI target countries of Tanzania and Uganda.

Marathon and Project Partners Announce Lifesaving Results From the First Phase of Bioko Island Malaria Control Project in Equatorial Guinea
HOUSTON, June 22, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO) through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Marathon E.G. Production Limited, announced today that the Government of Equatorial Guinea, Marathon and Noble Energy, have achieved very encouraging results from the first phase of the five-year, $8.3 million Bioko Island Malaria Control Project (BIMCP) in Equatorial Guinea.
These initial results include an 80 percent reduction in malaria transmitting mosquitoes and a 33 percent reduction in the presence of malaria parasites in children. Taken together these initial results suggest that the BIMCP is well on its way to eradicating the transmission of a disease that poses the most significant health threat to the citizens of Equatorial Guinea.

Production Limited, announced today that the Government of Equatorial Guinea, Marathon and Noble Energy have signed a letter of intent with Medical Care Development International (MCDI) to implement a comprehensive malaria control project for Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea.
This five-year $6.8 million initiative is designed to reduce the transmission of the malaria parasite through mosquito control programs and improved preventive measures at the household and community level.
