MCDI carried out this project with Chemonics to achieve USAID/Madagascar Strategic Objective (SO) 5: Use of selected health services and products increased and practices improved. This objective was part of an integrated strategic plan for sustainable and inclusive economic development. Reflecting the relationship between sectors, several SO 5 Intermediate Results (IRs) were linked to other USAID/Madagascar SOs for democracy and governance, environment and rural development, and agriculture and trade.
The project's focus areas corresponded with the GoM's Poverty Reduction Plan in the areas of maternal and child health (MCH), nutrition, disease reduction, and food security. The project also sought to augment MCDI's child-survival activities that were on-going in the Toliara Province.
