Increased Productivity Through Better Health (1986 - 1990)

The goal of this project was to help prevent enteric diseases by reducing the incidence of malaria and dengue fever and exteningcoverage of water and sanitation services in rural areas of Belize.

The project was organized into two components: 1) National Malaria Control Service (NMCS) and Aedes Aegypti Control Program (AACP) and 2) Water Supply/Sanitation and Rural Drinking Water Quality, which was supported administratively by a Management Support Unit.

The project focused on improving the management, performance, and cost efficiency of NMCS, AACP and the environmental health services of the Ministry of Health.

MCDI provided technical assistance in the areas of malaria control and water and sanitation systems, procurement and inventory analysis, operations research, and monitoring and evaluation. In addition, MCDI designed and implemented a MIS (Management Information System) to serve as a model for the Ministry of Health.
